I’m just a link

Posted by zunguzungu on April 28, 2008

I came across this via Acephalous. It’s the sort of thing I would blog about if they (and, to steal from this person’s list, Karnythia at The Angry Black Woman, Noli Irritare Leones, Lauredhel at Hoyden About Town, Burning Words, GallingGala, Feminocracy, Maia at Alas A Blog, Ottermatic, BastardLogic,The Rotund,Three Rivers Fog, Pam at Pandagon) hadn’t already weighed in. As she puts it:

“there has always been one broad and well-lit path for oppressed classes of people to “better themselves” — side with the oppressors against someone else. That is exactly what these images are depicting…”

Amen.

Honestly, I’m glad I decided to read my RSS reader again on Post Like Glenn Reynolds Day. Otherwise I would’ve been forced to try to respond to the … I’m not even sure what the right word is. Ugliness? Conflagration?

Shitstorm, maybe? Anyway, as ugly as it is, I like the way the passage I quoted emphasizes how (and perhaps this is the worst part) this sort of thing is exactly the norm. We expect people who are progressive in one way to be progressive in all ways. But it tain’t necessarily so. Though there’s also a “cast the first stone” moral in there somewhere, if one cares to look for it.
