Would ANYTHING lead Atwood to return the Dan David Prize money?
Well, exactly. The obtuseness of those two about what it means to take money from Israel is just vomit-inducing. I’m glad you posted that Lowkey clip, by the way; it crystalizes some things I’ve been thinking about really nicely. And this is really nicely put
“…an analysis of complicity must also be a call to solidarity. For those with white privilege in countries like the United Kingdom and the United States, an analysis of complicity without solidarity is mere posturing or self-flagellation; but solidarity without an analysis of complicity can be a false and privilege-blind claim to victimhood.”
Thanks for linking. One hopes that the Atwood business will have this productive result: that if “progressives” want to talk about human rights, criticize Israel, and “support” Palestine, they need to back it up with BDS or else be ridiculed and not taken seriously. (As Lowkey puts it, “You say you know about the Zionist lobby,/But you put money in their pocket when you’re buying their coffee,/Talking about revolution, sitting in Starbucks,/The fact is that’s the type of thinking I can’t trust.”)
