Syria
by zunguzungu
If you’re interested in what’s actually happening in Syria, this hour-long podcast by UCLA History James Gelvin is remarkably informative and cogent. Then there’s this Bassam Haddad interview and Joshua Landis’ Syria Comment. After that, this Human Rights Watch report is grim reading, as is Al-Jazeera’s “Syrian Unrest” page. The Atlantic asks “Is Syria Hopeless?”
This interview with Andy Carvin and David Kenner on the “Gay Girl” hoax and aftermath is also worth a listen, as is Kenner’s Foreign Policy article, particularly because he quotes and links to a certain “incensed blogger.”

Angry Arab thinks the video mentioned in the Atlantic article is staged:

Is there a way to check for authenticity?
Robin Yassin-Kassab of pulsemedia.org is also very good.
